From memory I don't think you can tune the read/write size.  I think in 3.0
the servers arbitrate and agree on some [in]convenient size.  As for the
Newsgroups: comp.unix.wizards,comp.unix.questions
retry/timeout stuff, that should be fairly straight-forward, use a text editor,
on the source.
