These records will be what we refer to as 'truly variable'. That is, they consist of a fixed length header portion and one or more (but always at least one) trailer portions which may be of different lengths. [Example - a 50 byte header with three trailer portions. One is 15 bytes in length. The second is 30 and the last is 9 bytes in length. If we have to, we can write something ourselves.
