I called Microport this morning, and talked to a John (Sully?) in the tech support department. For those of you who haven't discovered the 'p' key to read the parent article, after I installed DOSMerge/286 on my 2.2.1L SV/AT, running on an Everex/AT Plus System 1800A, rebooting with the new Merge kernel hangs the system, apparently in the hard disk driver. John had heard of this problem before, and told me that the problem was the Access Methods Inc. (AMI) BIOS used in later 1800-series computers. It seems there's a bug in that particular BIOS ROM, and that Merge had been successfully tested in an 1800 with an Award BIOS. He also said that AMI knew of the bug and was working on it, but he didn't know when they'd have it fixed. For the doubters out there about Microport support, (and I have been one of them at times!) it looks like they are really trying to upgrade the image. I called on the 800 number, was immediately put through to tech support, and got the answers I needed quickly. I hope they can keep it up. -- Jay Maynard, K5ZC (@WB5BBW)...>splut!< | uucp: uunet!nuchat!splut!jay Never ascribe to malice that which can | or: academ!uhnix1!--^ adequately be explained by stupidity. | GEnie: JAYMAYNARD CI$: 71036,1603 The opinions herein are shared by neither of my cats, much less anyone else.
