No, I suppose that would be a bit impractical (LEDs, esp. blue LEDs, are sorta expensive I think) but I think it >HAS< been considered at one point or another. I don't know if any prototypes were ever built. I always wanted a blue LED. It's been some kind of personal quest for me, ever since I heard of the (laboratory) existence of the beastie.
