Regarding Chrome contacts and Glass contacts, I saw on PBS
program, "The day the universe changed" by James Burke, 
that the _first_ contact lens were made of glass (quite painful).
Also that the first contacts were made quite a long time ago.
Sometime shortly after the first "spectacles".
