We understand that our readers in the southern hemisphere are approaching midsummer and not harvest season right now, but you Aussies and Kiwis might be interested in these recipes anyhow. The messages following this one form the 1987 special issue collection of recipes for Thanksgiving. Although Thanksgiving is strictly a North American holiday, the recipes may be of interest to folks in other continents, to see what we get so excited about every Fall. Thanksgiving is the colonial day of prayer and thanks for completion of the harvest, which is now celebrated nationwide in the USA as a secular holiday devoted primarily to overeating. In the USA, Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday in November. The harvest comes earlier in Canada, and their Thanksgiving day is the second Monday in October. If you have a recipe that you think should be in next year's special issue, please send it in. Brian Reid Editor, alt.gourmand Palo Alto, California
