You don't have to replace microport.

And it doesn't keep you from using your own 'getty'.

Simply leave the real one there for the console, and create another with the
name "Cgetty", for example... that is what the terminals other than the
console run (from inittab, simple to do), and all is well.

We've been doing that here since 1.3.6, no problems that I know of...
