It consists of the backbone, which links six major supercomputer centers in the U.S., regional networks such as NYSER, SURAN, and MIDnet that join research sites in a large section of the country (but are adminstered seperately), and campus nets at each individual sites. NSFnet is not supposed to be a conduit for commericial sites to get access to the Internet.
