Since the "From " string is used as a delimiter, separating one message from another, SOME means is required to prevent lines beginning with such a string from signaling the start of a new message. More critically, it would be TOO easy to fake a message from some user if such potential delimiters were not masked. Ray Shwake IRS User Assistance Branch
