The consensus seemed to ba that for the price it was an adequuate modem. The lack of a speaker was seen as an inconvenience and the inability to program an S-register as a limitation for some special applications. One respondent had concerns about its performance on noisy lines. For the price US$88 it doesn't seem a bad deal. In the end I decided to go for a Smarteam 1200AT which was available for US$98, and seemed better value for money, with none of the previous limitations (I hope!). Thanks again Gordon Marwood
