Jon, I found tonite by accident, that the junk only appears if I have 
my ascii-save turned on (Procomm).
Now I get good messages but have to remember all of it!
Suppose I'll have to look into one of the other good newer comm programs
available.
Better yet, hope to get a copy of Minix, then start over!!
