 HELP!!  I need to become a scsi expert fast!!

I am a hardware type ( logic designer ) who recently has been
thrown into the world of peripherials due to budget reductions.

I am looking for books/articals/videos which will explain
the scsi software protocols/messages from a top down ( start at the
begining) type approach. 

I have no problem with the electrical interface/timing but all
these registers, messages and pointers are as confusing as hell.

Any information will be greatly appreciated, and will help keep
my learning curve to a miminum.
