When I try to fetch HOSTS.TXT, do a whois lookup, or just to telnet in, I sometimes get TCP resets, and sometimes just get timeouts. When I last telnetted to the SMTP port on the NIC, though, it worked fine. If it was just timeouts, I wouldn't be so surprised, but it seems strange to me that the NIC would tell me to go away when I try to reach certain well-known ports and not others. Is something funny going on out there? I'd sure like to update my host tables, for those last few machines who need to use it... -Steve
