You need at least 1024 very carefully selected colors to get good video for arbitrary scenes. HAM with 4096 is good enough since most pictures don't require arbitrary croma changes on a pixel basis. How about 8-bit HAM? Be hard, since 16M = 256x256x256. Something might be worked out. 68020 would be enough for me. Keep the 68030 for the A5000 (or maybe use the SPARC?
