Try running real time applications on a VAX under VMS. Especially things like high speed data collection. You end up dropping a lot of data on the floor. On the other hand, a lowly 16-bit DG Eclipse running RDOS will do a wonderful job for you. The problem is that the development environment is a real bitch to live with. So, where are you going to make your tradeoffs?
