When I first got my amiga, I bought the original Textcraft (running under Kickstart 1.1), and although it was a little too cute, I loved it. I liked the "what you see is what you get" display that the other word processors (like scribble!) didn't have, and it seemed like a well done program. (It had only a few annoyances, like only being able to save to the same directory that the program was in.) All in all, I was very happy with it. Then, I installed kickstart 1.2 in ROM, and since my version of Textcraft only ran with 1.1, I had to pirate (sorry, I'm only a poor college student) Textcraft Plus (Hah! some plus). The version of Textcraft Plus I have is a giant step backwards from the original Textcraft. Instead of making its own screen, it uses windows on top of the workbench screen. This is fine, except it often (and very slowly at that) redraws the screen three times after some commands. The scrolling is horendously slow. Displaying of typed characters is also ridiculously slow. My workbench boots with the key repeat speed at maxium, and when I forget to slow it down before running Textcraft Plus, I often backspace over a page of text when I only intended to backspace over a single sentence. I don't know if the improved later versions, but I think they had some nerve naming the program Textcraft Plus as if it was an improvement over the old one. I'm glad I didn't buy it, because the company who made it (sorry, I don't know who makes it) would have recieved a very long and nasty letter. Rich Champeaux Clemson University
