Lewis) Organization: California Institute of Technology Lines: 25 I recently discovered that if disks are write-protected, and there happens to be a read error (because of mis-alignment, or some other happening), that my Amiga will still say "Read/Write Error... Use DiskDoctor to fix," but that it will not forcefully trash the disk while it is in this state of mis-alignment. Now this may seem to be common-sensical, but it tells me that when my disks get "Hard Sector errors," they are a result of the Disk-Validator doing a write onto some portion of the disk that it shouldn't be writing to (like between tracks). When I went back and tried to read the write-protected disk that my Amiga told me was trashed (after the head had a chance to "click" a few times), -=> everything was fine <=- !! There were no problems, and all my files were intact and readable! Therefore, I am wondering if the manner in which the Disk-Validator is attempting to correct read/write errors is truly a Valid technique? Would I be better off by preventing the D-V from acting upon these errors? By the way... I am just assuming that the D-V is the one that tells me about "DiskDoctor".
