Lines: 50 I've seen this modem for $180... See my posting to comp.dcom.modems. I bought the modem last week... Gadi On the other hand, I will include the posting here BTW, I had trouble getting a cable for my IIc. The only ones my apple dealer sold were round on both ends, since that what the Apple personal modem uses. I needed round to db25. I lucked out and had an old round->db25 printer cable, and used a null modem. But if your starting from scratch, good luck... n ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I have the Practical Peripherals modem. (I paid $200 since they had them in stock). I've had it for about 1 week, and haven't had any trouble using it at 2400 and 1200 bps. It claims to be entirely hayes compatible.. I haven't given it a thorough test, but my software works. (I'm using a IIc). It has 27 S registers, 7 Leds. You can save 4 numbers, and 2 configurations in which ALL the options can be stored. The manual, 73 small pages including an index claims that the only only things that it does not have in order to be hayes compatible is a synchronous mode, which it emulates in software, and a TR LED. It does not do all the self testing that Hayes does. And does not have a "Dumb Mode Strap" (??) Inside there is a printed circuit board, with no 'tape' any of the other horrors of which I'd read. There is no mention of MNP anywhere so I assume it does not have any. I'd be happy to answere any specific questions, but generally I'm very satisfied. BTW does anyone know what to do about "call waiting"????? Gadi. The above is only my opinion as a, currently, satisfied customer. We'll see what happens once I try and bring up a BBS... -- Gadi uucp: {ames, cbosgd, harvard, moss}!rutgers!aramis.rutgers.edu!friedman arpa: FRIEDMAN@ARAMIS.RUTGERS.EDU -- Gadi uucp: {ames, cbosgd, harvard, moss}!rutgers!aramis.rutgers.edu!friedman arpa: FRIEDMAN@ARAMIS.RUTGERS.EDU
