It sounds as though the speaker is on the battery side of the phone line without a capacitor. Reversing the phone line should solve the problem. RE the LASER EX A member of our group was dead set on buying a Laser. We went to Columbus to a dealer who carried them. He told us that of the 20 he had sold that year 3 of them had been defective. The policy was to replace them but the new ones took several weeks to get. The one that he had for a demo had a bad space bar. Since the ROMS are being constantly 'upgraded' (spelled changed) the software that worked on one wouldn't necessarily work on the new one. As to the LASER EX it has not actually been released yet ( as of this visit) although a certain mailorder house has been cheerfully accepting payment for them for some time now. In all honesty, after using the machine, I would not pay more than $150. No sarcasm intended.
