ELROND is/was one of the machines in the LOTR (Lord of the rings) pantheon of machines. I can't remember which group owned those machines. I doubt that there is still a mailbox for EMPIER on ELROND, though. If there is, you could get to it from the USEnet through ...!decwrl!elrond.dec.com!empire, or some such, since I'm sure there is still a node ELROND. -- Daniel A.
