Simply turning off that bit will not always turn off sound. Fortunately, there is a PD or shareware, etc. program that can be used in an attempt to turn off the speaker (via software). It simply sits in memory (it is a TSR) and turns off the speaker every time a timer interrupt comes around (18.2 times a second). This method works somewhat well; every time a program tries to make a sound, the sound is cut off at the next interupt. In practice, the "sound" turns into a click, as there is sound for a very short period of time. Something like this may or may not be what your friend is looking for. If you're interested in it, send Email, and I'll dig the program out of my archives and mail you a uuencoded .ARC file. -- Darryl Okahata {hplabs!hpccc!, hpfcla!} hpsrla!darrylo CompuServe: 75206,3074 Disclaimer: the above is the author's personal opinion and is not the opinion or policy of his employer or of the little green men that have been following him all day.
