Zapcis lets you name newsgroups of interest, and then have it automatically go online, request headers of unread articles, and leave. You then mark the headers in Zapcis (offline), and make another pass at the host, where Zapcis has the articles typed to it's capture buffer. Finally, zapcis keeps different capture files for each newsgroup, and manages the display of the articles with "next/previous/respond/etc." features. I am using my pc in capture mode with "find [newsgroup subdir] -mtime -n -links 1 -exec cat {} \;" to list what I want (n=number of days back to go). Perhaps there are news programs on some unix hosts that allow downloading useful for PCs; ours doesn't seem to. Perhaps I could put up unix on my PC and more efficiently interact with my host on the network. This is of course intended to minimize impact on our host; connect time seems to be more critical than cpu/io load during the hours I'd be most interested in reading news. It seems to make sense to download at an off hour. Has anyone pursued this?
