The rule appears to be that the size of the memory in bank A (the bank to the rear right) must be >= the size of the memory in bank B. A given bank must be full - you can't just install 2 1M SIMMS to get 2M. SIMMS are highly static sensitive. Don't do this if you aren't properly grounded.
