It's a very simple stack: 5 background fields, only 1 background. Every time I try to compact it, it chugs away for 10s of minutes and then either crashes, or "unexpectedly quits" (if I try from multifinder) or comes up with a dialog stating that it couldn't do it. I'm using a Mac II w/ 2 meg, 40 meg hard drive (with 10 meg free), sys 4.2 and finder 6.0. It fails in both regular and multifinder. The stack originally was 4.4 meg in size and after the first failure it went to 4.9 meg, then to 5.4 meg in the next failure. Also, after every failure, I get a new stack "Temp 1" on my disk. Any suggestions? Anyone else have trouble compacting stacks? Andy Ihlenfeldt uucp: ihnp4!mmm!andyi 3M, St. Paul, MN -or- rutgers!umn-cs!mmm!andyi (612) 736-7143
