Lines: 25 Keywords: controlers disks etc Approved: masscomp@soma.bcm.tmc.edu We are considering alternate sources of SMD-type disks to use on our recently acquired MC-5550s. The new CDC drives look very appealing. We currently have a couple on demo from a local vendor and are experimenting with them on our Sun-3s. I would be interested to hear of anyone else's experience. [Unless things have changed drastically, using unsupported disks is a bad idea. The drivers tend to be "tuned" to each disk supported. It is fairly easy to get the same model disk from the manufacturer or from a middleman at a somewhat lower cost than masscomp. -- sob]
