Thanks to all who responded to my question about installing the device
drivers.  I had written all the code, but didn't realize that the prefix
to my routines had to match the prefix specified in /etc/master.d.

Thanks again to all who pointed me (*ptr :-)) in the right direction.
It turned out to be a piece of cake!
