Summary: Thanks for your answers, I'll be posting a summary.

A while back, I requested information about the hosts.equiv file.
I am pleased, the following people responded and wish to thank them:

I will be posting a summary, someday soon. (At the moment, I have a
lot of real work to do :-) I will test some of the features that were
mentioned and experiment a bit before I post the summary.
