Message-ID: <2540@homxc.UUCP> Date: 17 Dec 87 00:58:17 GMT Organization: Viola Lee's Blues Lines: 18 Keywords: "memory fault - core dumped", dx2700 Before I came to this site, some hot-shot salesman from Xerox talked the then-administrator into buying Xerox 3700 printers to (get this, folks...) be driven by a network of 6 **3B2s**. OK, that idiocy aside, the software they picked to drive them is the product of VLS inc. in California, and guess what ? It's *broke*. Like, "core dump" broke. Actually, it works fine for text, but feed it pic and POW! memory faults. When you call VLS, what happens ?? "Well, _we_ can't duplicate that error." Or "Yes, it's a known bug, we'll have a new release out tommorrow", and needless to say, tommorrow never comes. And I'm not the only one running this garbage here, either. It dumps core just as well on VAXen as it does on anything else. Moral ? Don't buy Xerox for UNIX systems, and never buy VLS products, unless you *like* core dumps. Expensive, unsupported core dumps. lou marco
