Re: Jerry Pournelle says Unix has a chance. Yea, I chuckled when I read the comment about Unix doing just about everything that OS/2 does. Wise up, folks. Unix is a real operating system that provides source-level compatibility between widely differing platforms. OS/2 is an IBM ploy to sell you yet another toy operating system by mimicking a real OS on a hardware platform that is ill suited to anything but micro-computing. 1/2 :-) Seriously, I think that Pournelle underestimates both the potential market and the utility of Unix for the small business. The idea about putting it into ROM is interesting, though; I've heard it expressed before. It certainly would be nifty to boot up a machine in only a few seconds. Besides, wouldn't it be nice to have a root file system that you *couldn't* trash?
