I'm going with Gary's as being the most readable (to my eyes). Also thanks to those who explained the status of ANSII C and "prior art". I still think that binary constants are a good idea, but after following some of the other ANSII C discussions (e.g. noalias); I'm convinced that there's more hope for C++.
