While having no experience of the particular code listing you reference, I did some work with WARPLAN about 4 years ago, and experienced similar problems. I'm afraid I don't have my documentation here, but I seem to remember that I got around it by implementing an ad-hoc loop detector. There are other more advanced versions of WARPLAN around, WARPLANC I believe, which overcome some of these problems.
