If the exit door at the rear is open, paper goes out that way. John observes that the rear exit "provides you with a straight paper path for heavier weight paper or labels that might otherwise have problems negotiating the 180 degree turn." With a CX you can not derive this benefit with the paper tray, but only manually feeding. Also, he writes that image size is determined by the tray in the engine, even in manual mode, but I think this a controller specific issue.
