Summary: looking for a way to tell what roff preprocessors I need


Did you ever have one of those weeks?  I am wondering if anyone else out
there ever struggles with trying to figure out what nroff macros a
particular document of someone else's uses, what preprocessors are necessary,
etc.?  There have been some things that I have tried -man, -ms, -mn, and
so forth, and the document either gives me error messages or garbled output.

Surely someone has written some type of command which examines the file, 
figures out what nroff/troff macros are needed, identifies whether any
special preprocessing (at least standard things like eqn, tbl, pic)
is needed, and perhaps goes ahead and DOES  it - isnt there?
