I would love to see such a program.  In a similar vein, does anyone have a
LARGE machine readable database of luminous bodies, including location
(relative to ANY point in space), spectral class, mass, and other such detailed
information?  I am trying to write a galactic navigation trainer (much like
"Project Halley", but 3D movement and galactic boundaries)  If anyone has any
leads on such a file (like the _original_ Yale Catalog - 250 bytes/star) I
would be very grateful.
