I think that the answerers at the hotline are hand picked to infuriate callers with their lack of knowldedge! I spent about an hour on the phone with one of the hotline people which got nowhere. He logged into my machine and poked around while I talked to him. He found my /usr/local and proclaimed that phdaemon must be the source of problems and proceded to lock up his machine by catting the executable. He redials while I say, "Try /usr/local/src". He: "Uhhh..." I add: "Darn it! I'm not running that anyway!!" He: "Prove it." I: "Try ps -fe" He: "Uhhh... Well, maybe something else is running it?" Me: "Say what? Why don't you look at /etc/rc to satisfy yourself." He: "What's /etc/rc?" Me, silentlty: "Aaarrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!". I'm starting to get uncomfortably near the end of my generous :-) 90 day warranty, so the random crashing is getting to be more of a pressing issue. I suggestion to all owners of 3.51 is to call the hotline and let 'em know what's going on! Every time I call, they deny that they've ever heard of such a problem. 66@cjsa.UUCP is proof that the hotline is not unaware. --Bill
