Lines: 41 Keywords: windows 386 windows 2.0 I am running windows 386 (or trying to) and have the following difficulty. First, let me state that I am using the Haupage 386 Motherboard with EGA+ and microsoft mouse. The version of windows that I am using was sold with the *clear* understanding that this version was not only for the compact but would work on IBM and Intel above board products. The salesman at Computerland was quite insistant that it would work, and besides, if it didn't, I would be able to return it. They neglected to tell me that If I opened the sealed envelope, I would not be able to return it. They say I have to get an update from microsoft, and microsoft says that I should never have had that version in the first place. They also said that when the version 2.03 is released (or it snows on the first day of july), I would have to pay 86.00 for the update. I already paid 165.00 for the software that doesn't work. Enough of my flaming, lesson learned, don't buy software from Computerland and don't believe what the salesman tell you. Since I buy software for a major corporation, I have the choice of vendors to chose from (Computerland is on the list). I figure I have already taken my revenge by not buying close to 50K worth of software by taking my business elsewhere. By the end of next year, Computerland's escapade will cost them close to 200K. Now the problem with the software. When invoking windows by typing win86, it works. However I cannot get the non-windows applications to work since it tells me that windows is not installed correctly. The manual says I have to invoke windows by typing win386. When I do that, the mouse responds nicely, but I get no response from the keyboard. I can invoke outside programs (by selecting them with the mouse) but no input from the keyboard. Under win86, both mouse and keyboard work fine. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a patch? Haupauge claims that this version of windows has some strange drivers, which makes it worse. Both computerland and haupage blame each other. Will someone please take pity on this poor unfortunate? Thanks, Eric Beser usenet eric@sarin arpanet ebeser@ajpo.sei.cmu.edu
