I read an article on here not long ago that there is a microprocessor inside
all ADB devices that are initialized upon a bootup.  Thus, unplugging one will
erase the memory in the device.  Did you Shut Down when switching keyboards?
If not, the new keyboard wasn't initialized.  The person mentioned nothing
about damage, though, just that the system had to be rebooted. Hope that helps.
