Last night my TI99/4A started generating extra characters (when a key
was pushed multiple characters would be provided), or it would ignore a
keystroke.

I found that the metal spring clip holding the ribbon cable on the
keyboard had pressed through several of the ribbon cable wires, and were
intermittently shorting out through the spring.  I placed a tab of
plastic between the spring and the cable, and things are fine now.

Just thought I'd let you know the symptom and solution for an aggravating
problem.
