There are 3 or 4 public domain versions of dvi2ps (dvi TO postscript filter),
written in the C language, from the same source. They all work fine, but ...
none of them, as I know, integrate the add-on features introduced by the
others. For example, in the standard distribution of TeX for Unix systems
(sent for a moderate price by the University of Washington, by courtesy
of Pierre Mac Kay), a good version of dvi2ps is given. It can use the "gf"
format of the fonts, less voluminous than the "pxl". In case of inclusion of 
Macintosh generated postscript inside the DVI (as by \special), it does not
save and restore correctly the state. An older version of dvi2ps was able to
act graciously in that case, but it necessited to generate the pxl formats.

So, in the Imag Institute, we use only Postscript printers, one AGFA P400-PS
and 10 Apple LaserWriters, for TeX/LaTeX (with dvi2ps and dvi2agfa, a locally 
customized version to manage with the 406 p/i resolution instead of 300),
DWB/Troff and the Macintosh stuffs.
