Does anyone have any wonderful principles of typography?  I'm trying to
find out just what makes text "look right". 

Are the characters too close together?
Is there too much whitespace?
How important is all this compared to line justification?

What do you know about kerning?  What does one do when some characters are
overkerned?  For instance, the character pair "HH" is easily kerned to
within one pixel, but this is "far too close", especially when compared
to the pair "LA" or "OO". [Beware, your terminal font is *not* a good
example]

Essentially I would like to know qualitatively just what a good typographer
knows instinctively.
