My own inbox today is twice as large as my kernel, and all my saved mail together is 39 times as large as the kernel. So what? I think Gene speaks for himself better than you do for him. By the way, among the 16 Megs of mail I found the mail I referred to in my second inflammatory message on the subject. At the time it was written, the backbone maps were posted to mod.map. ================================ To: ihnp4!gatech!spaf Phone: +1 312 702 8207 Subject: Re: The USENET Backbone (Last changed: 11 January 1987) Date: Wed, 18 Feb 87 17:08:30 CST Gene, Two comments: Could you wrap the backbone postings into a simple shar package? I and, I suppose, others run all mod.map articles through an unshar program which looks for plausible and safe shell commands. I get mail from it complaining about the "backbone" articles. The other thing is, what is this "faline" shown as part of the backbone? It's not in the map anywhere. And why is Ulysses a backbone site when its map entry lists no news neighbors? I guess some info is just inconsistent. Say, if the links ihnp4 -- gargoyle -- oddjob -- hao are all full-service (except for talk.*), low-delay links, are gargoyle and oddjob then backbone sites? Do we get robes for the cabal meetings? (:-) I have just created a new link to hao (and am working on one to the east coast) to reduce Chicago's dependence on poor old ihnp4. Together gargoyle and oddjob feed about 8 other Chicago-area sites. Matt ================================
