Summary: Distributions in sys file?

What exactly is the purpose of the distributions that are placed in the
second field of the sys file? My docs tell my that only newsgroups belong
here. I guess that an article that is posted with distribution na will go
only to systems that have na in their sys file entry. But what if they
have world there? Do they still get the article? Thanks.
