I guess he used a "reply" rather than a "forward"type command from usenet. I was unable to send him any mail in return so, feeling responsible, I decided to write this (copied from the GNU emacs manual). Please, no flames, there might be others lurking around out there who would like to know this - You have no idea how many forwarding requests I got whenever I posted questions whose answe I thought only I was dull enough to need. Getting Emacs (anybody with better information - feel free) use anonymous login from file '/u2/emacs/dist/edist/.tar' on host 'prep.ai.mit.edu' or for a 16000bpi tar tape of GNUemacs send a check for $150.00 to Free Software Foundation 1000 Mass Ave Cambridge, Ma 02138 copies of the manual are available for $15.00 from the same address add %5 sales tax if you are from Massachusetts, $15.00 additional if you want airmail. Okay, my good deed is done. In the past few months I have posted several questions about 1) ^Q^S flow control 2) Sun termcaps probably others. Each time the responses were quick, polite, helpful and accurate. Each time however the helpful responses were far outnumbered by the requests from other equally troubled souls that I forward the information (about 10 to 1). Further, since I asked these questions I have seen them pop up again as if new a few times. Maybe there should ber a library of stock replies to these stock questions and these could be posted automagically. Yes, I know they are in the distribution somewhere but it couldn't hurt to be nice.
