If you view it as a new language, "ANSI C" could be the name of this new language. The standardization effort is definitly under the offices of ANSI. I am not taking a position on the relavence of the ANSI language definition to the common subset of C implementations in use today. About parens being honoured -- I'd suggest that a vendor may wish to permit the user to relax paren grouping ala K&R with either a #pragma or a compiler switch. I'm not suggesting specific mechanics for this, but other extensions/optimizations can be controlled in this manner to provide a conforming compiler environment with non-portable extensions. -- Daniel A.
