A document from Argonne and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories titled
"A Review and Analysis of Fortran 8x" is now available from the National
Technical Information Service, U.S. Department of Commerce, 5285 Port Royal
Road, Springfield, VA  22161.  Its price code is A02 for quantities 1-50 -
what that means in dollars only Uncle Sugar knows for sure.  They may file
it under Livermore's number UCID-21248 or Argonne's ANL-87-40.  More likely,
it'll be something that bears no relation to either one.

This document is 50 pages, organized into seven chapters, each by a different 
author or authors.  It would seem to serve as a general introduction to the
extensions planned, relative to Fortran 77.  The review items are a significant
part of the document, comprising Chapter 5 in toto as well as parts of the 
other sections.

Overall, this document is the best summary of Fortran 8x I have seen short
of Metcalf & Reid's book "Fortran 8x Explained" (which I have plugged 
in previous notes).  For parties interested enough to read this far, you
are reminded that the public review period for Fortran 8x runs out on
February 23rd and your comments must be in the X3 Secretariat's hands by
that deadline to be officially considered.
