    I want to send a message to a distribution list without the whole list
    showing up on everybody's copy.  I have thought of one way of doing
    this...

Try using something like:

    To: Blind List: user1, user2, user3@host, etc. ;


The recipients get a "To" line that looks like:

    To: Blind List: ;
