HD (ST238) --> IBM/PC1 problems .... Message-ID: <5142@cit-vax.Caltech.Edu> Date: 11 Jan 88 11:13:04 GMT Distribution: na Organization: California Institute of Technology Lines: 20 YES! The last time in the history of humanity: I have been trying really hard to install my new Seagate 238 hard drive in my PC1 (read: PC that's too old to know about hard drives). I know that the drive works, because I've tried it in a friend's XT. I have earnestly tried to get a hold of the new, updated ROM that will solve the problem, but IBM doesn't seem to make the chip any more, and no local dealers (LA area) seem to have it on their shelf. The latest (fairly appealing) alternative I've seen is to buy a new motherboard for about $110 (XT/turbo, switchable 5.77/8Mhz, eight slots), which SHOULD welcome the hard drive. Is this my best solution? Will I get my money's worth? Will this even work? Please respond by e-mail, if possible. As usual, I'll post an summary of replies. mb ------------- Mark Berman berman@iago.caltech.edu berman@citiago.bitnet
