Respect and self-confidence will usually lead to better work. (These things are even codified in the civil service, where depending on rank one receives an office, than a wooden desk, then a wooden trash can, and finally, carpeting. There is a silliness in it). I work at home as much as possible, am far more productive there, and control the many facets of my life. Computers, so long as you don't have to keep resetting them, make this kind of work possible. If only management would trust its employees, employees enjoy their work (learn from it, grow...), and return that trust.
