Mamakos) Organization: University of Maryland, College Park Lines: 14 Rather than having the file transfer program talk to the serial port, have it talk to standard input/output, and pass it a pair of pipes. Have the VT100 program shove the data in/out of the pipe to the serial line. This way you don't have to know what serial port unit is being used. And, you're not limited to using it over a serial port only. Build tools rather than monolithic applications. Remember, there are at least 2 freely re- distributable pipe implementations out there.
