Well, down the hall from me is a guy by the name of Phil Karn.  He
has written a package called 'NET', a TCP/IP implementation for
packet (ham) radio.  Included in the package is support for 3COM
ethernet boards.  Also included are FTP and Telnet.  [I'm using
my PC as a terminal just this second, at 38kbaud :-) Great for
netnews!  ]

It works, it comes with source, and it's free.
